CAUSE

1 IN 3 TEENS EXPERIENCE ANXIETY.

Statistics for adolescent mental health are alarming. Hospitalizations for suicidal thoughts among teens have nearly doubled in the last ten years. 37% of students, ages 14 and older, with an underlying mental health condition drop out of school. The problems young people face are stark, yet stigma against help-seeking and barriers to accessing care are still some of the highest risk factors.

For families seeking anxiety treatment for their child, there is a substantial cost to inpatient care. Nationally, costs range from $320 to $1,930 per day, with length of stay varying between 60 and 90 days. Treatment centers are more commonly not covered by insurance providers and provide limited access to financial assistance.

OUR PARTNER

MOUNTAIN VALLEY TREATMENT CENTER: A SOLUTION FOR YOUTH.

Support for Pyxis Rose expeditions directly contributes to the Don Vardell scholarship fund at Mountain Valley Treatment Center, in Plainfield, New Hampshire.

MVTC is a not-for-profit residential treatment center for mental disorders and conditions in adolescents and emerging adults of all genders struggling with anxiety and general disorders.

MVTC provides evidence-based treatment of anxiety in a therapeutic and structured environment, including exposure and response prevention and expressive art therapy. The average length of stay for residents is 60 to 90 days, with an available posttreatment option for continued academic exposure and credit recovery for adolescents in their transition.

As Executive Director of MVTC, Don Vardell would work to admit as many students seeking treatment as the center could and was disheartened when there were adolescents MVTC could not admit because of its not-for-profit status. The Don Vardell scholarship fund was created in his memory to serve even more students suffering from debilitating anxiety, OCD and depression.
